Introduction

In life and as a doula, I try to avoid blanket statements. Nonetheless, I can say this with certainty: Pregnancy is transformative. No matter what type of pregnancy and childbirth you experience, it will change you both physically and emotionally. How you prepare for and react to those changes is largely up to you.

My goal is to support you as you navigate the transformative experience of pregnancy. Through training, reading, and personal experience, I have built - and continue to build - a well of knowledge that I hope that I can use to bring you comfort and make both your pregnancy and your delivery experiences that you will look back on as uplifting and empowering.

MISSION STATEMENT

I am a DONA-trained doula seeking certification. I offer prenatal, birth, antepartum, and postpartum services to birthing people of all backgrounds regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation. I believe in supporting pregnant people and their partners in ways that feel comfortable and safe for them, and working together as partners to achieve a satisfying and memorable childbirth experience.

Tenets of My Doula Philosophy

What to Expect from Me

Open-minded, non-judgmental care

First and foremost, whatever type of family you come from or relationship you are (or are not in), whatever type of birth you are planning, and whatever future you are envisioning, I support you. I make no judgments, and my focus begins and ends with what you want. The health, both physical and mental, of you and your baby are paramount to me. I do not discriminate based on race, religion, sexuality, or birth plan.

Focus on mental health

I am especially passionate about prenatal and postpartum mental health. I have read and continue to read extensively on these subjects, and am always building my resource list for referrals. Between 4 and 20 percent of pregnant people experience prenatal depression, around 50 percent experience the baby blues, and between 10 and 20 percent experience postpartum depression. You are not alone. You are not abnormal. There is support.

Support for any type of birth

I cannot stress enough that doulas are not only for unmedicated, vaginal births - a doula can be a wonderful resource for any type of birth. Each birth is natural, remarkable, and unique, and I want to help you embrace your birth, no matter what type it is or whether or not it goes to plan.

Compassion, knowledge, and humor

I am a mother, a daughter, a friend, and a wife. I value each of these roles and I strive to bring to each a strong sense of empathy and responsibility. You can expect the same from me as a doula. I also know that sometimes laughter is indeed the best medicine, and try to inject humor whenever possible (and appropriate).
